Audi A4 Allroad Quattro to Be Unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

Audi is set to expand its A4 line up with the all new A$ Allroad quattro that features permanent All Wheel Drive (AWD) and off road capability. The model will debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show and is essentially a taller, more rugged version of the A4 Avant wagon.

The A4 Allroad comes equipped with a range of features including a dual clutch S tronic transmission, Audi’s intelligent handling technology and brand new assistance and communication systems. The Allroad’s design is reminiscent of the Avant, but is taller, has wider fenders, more rugged bumpers, fog lights in the front and new housing for the air intake. More chrome comes on the Allroad, particularly around fog light enclosures and there are vertical chrome strips on the single frame radiator grille. Significant trunk space and a load-through hatch with removable ski bag complete the design nicely.

Audi plans to include three engine variants, all of which are turbo charged direct fuel injection units that come equipped with new recuperation systems that, during deceleration, convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. There will be one petrol engine and two diesel versions, initially. The base engine will be a 2.0L TFSI that runs at 211 horsepower and can go 0 to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 143mph.

Blackstone Group Senses Real Estate Opportunities in Current Market

According to reports from a webcast from a recent Barclays Capital conference webcast, Blackstone Group chief operations officer Tony James has expressed optimism regarding real estate opportunities in 2009 that the company has not felt confident about in the last two years. James believes that the market has bottomed out now and that Blackstone, a private equity firm with more than $12 billion in capital they are prepared to invest, must move forward and begin buying.

Between 2005 and 2007, the company sold off real estate assets totalling around $60 billion, but now they have three deals on the table that should be more indicative of their present direction. Blackstone will focus its investments on distressed seller properties and discounted debt such as a selection of senior living properties from Sunwest.

James sees the stronger stocks and bonds markets as good omens, but still recognized that the global economy remains weak and that in response to this, Blackstone must remain cautious in their financial endeavors.

In addition to their real estate investments, Blackstone intends to invest heavily in the credit markets by continuing to buy up debt tied to major corporations such as Hilton Hotels, Biomet and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co’s Dollar General.

The company estimates it will pay out $1.20 distribution to its public shareholders for 2009.

Verio to Offer Enterprise Level Web Hosting at Small Business Prices

Service provider Verio Inc. has announced what it hopes to be a new category in the web hosting industry called Advanced Business Hosting. Their aim with this new service plan is to offer small businesses a competitive edge buy pricing enterprise level hosting at more easily affordable rates that would appeal to small business involved in online commerce.

Verio is known for its web hosting, application hosting and Software as Service offerings. Their focus has traditionally been on the online small business market, offering their services to a global range of such companies.

By utilizing their Virtual Private Server (VPS) technology, the company plans to provide customers who choose their Advanced Business Hosting plans with dedicated containers where they will have their own email, web and database access while still being wholly separate from other Verio customers. This plan is being marketed at a price similar to what a standard shared hosting plan would cost, but would provide performance, security and reliability that would be higher than those shared hosting plans are able to offer.

The company intends to offer three tiers of service, each with a different price point and level of service. Their Foundation Web package starts at $9.95 per month and allows for up to 4 unique web sites. For $29.95 monthly, their Professional Web package offers more space and up to 8 web sites. The highest level of service will be offered at a cost of $84.95 per month and give customers the ability to host 16 of their own web sites.
